The Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 allow for import of prohibited substances with permission of administering agencies.

The Therapeutic Goods Order No. 93 (Standard for Medicinal Cannabis) ensures that medicinal cannabis products meet quality standards, whether or not those products are imported or manufactured domestically. 

The Narcotic Drugs Act 1967 gives effect to some of Australia’s obligations under the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961.
