About the consultation

The Australian Government sought feedback on options to increase the quantity of kava that incoming passengers could import into Australia for personal use. The consultation paper was released to support consideration of a pilot program and gather views from stakeholders and the community.

Purpose of the Pilot Program

The proposed pilot program explored options for easing existing restrictions on personal importation of kava while supporting appropriate regulatory oversight. Feedback received through the consultation process helped inform future policy development and implementation considerations.
