The Office of Drug Control (ODC) is part of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. Based in Canberra, we regulate controlled drugs to reduce illicit use while ensuring access to essential medicines.
Our goal is to maintain strong, effective regulation and uphold trust in Australia’s approach to narcotic drug control, both nationally and internationally.
What we do
At the ODC, our work includes:
- Administering licences and permits for controlled drugs, including import, export and manufacture
- Regulating medicinal cannabis cultivation
- Assessing licence and permit applications
- Conducting compliance inspections
- Working with international partners such as the International Narcotic Control Board (INCB)
- Supporting advisory bodies on medicinal cannabis
- Providing advice on travelling with controlled medicines
