Overview

As part of the 2019 review of the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967, stakeholders were invited to provide feedback on the operation of the legislation and its regulatory framework. 

The consultation process gathered input from industry, government and other interested parties to help inform the review and future policy considerations. 

Consultation outcomes

A total of 25 submissions were received in response to the consultation. Of these, 20 submissions were not marked confidential and have been published to support transparency and stakeholder engagement in the review process. 

The submissions provided valuable perspectives on:

  • The operation of the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967.
  • Licensing and permit arrangements.
  • Opportunities to improve regulatory efficiency.
  • The development of Australia's medicinal cannabis industry.
