Tasmanian Botanics Pty Ltd fined $39,600 for alleged breaches of the Narcotic Drugs Act

Published

The Office of Drug Control (ODC) has given two infringement notices totalling $39,600 to Tasmanian-based company Tasmanian Botanics Pty Ltd (Tasmanian Botanics) for alleged breaches of its medicinal cannabis licence.

It is alleged that Tasmanian Botanics failed to meet its obligations under the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967 (the Act) by failing to follow its approved standard operating procedure for waste disposal and by failing to maintain its licensed premises consistent with approved site plans included in its licence.

Licence holders must understand and comply with their responsibilities under the Act and all licence conditions.

Consequences for non-compliance with relevant laws include not only financial penalties but could also lead to civil or criminal proceedings being brought against those who fail to meet their requirements.

If you suspect non-compliance in relation to medicinal cannabis cultivation or manufacture, you can report illegal or questionable practices to the ODC via its online tip-off page: ODC Tip-off form.
