Australian cannabis data: Import, export, production and stock

This page contains information on cannabis-related activities regulated by the Office of Drug Control (ODC) on behalf of the Australian Government. This data is collected under the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 (PI Regulations), the Customs (Prohibited Exports) Regulations 1958 (PE Regulations), the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967 (ND Act), and the Narcotic Drugs Regulation 2016 (ND Regulation), as per the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs of 1961.

Australian Cannabis Data: Import, Export, Production, and Stock

Table 1 shows the total quantity of cannabis imported into Australia under the PI Regulations. This data is separated by country and calendar year.

Table 4 shows the stock of cannabis held in Australia at the end of each calendar year under the ND Act. Recorded as dry weight expressed as kilograms with 10% moisture content (or equivalent).

Definitions

Cannabis: means the flowering or fruiting tops of the cannabis plant (excluding the seeds and leaves when not accompanied by the tops) from which the resin has not been extracted, by whatever name they may be designated.

Export: the physical transfer of drugs from Australia to another country.

Import: the physical transfer of drugs from another country to Australia.

Produced: the amount of cannabis separated from the plants from which they are obtained.

Stock: the amount of cannabis an entity has on hand, including from their own cultivation and production activities, cannabis purchased from another domestic source or imported, and cannabis retained for manufacture activities.
